The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV, or Human Herpesvirus 4, HHV-4) is a DNA virus belonging to the family of Herpesvirus. The virus is tramsmitted by salivary contact and most often individuals become infected during their young childhood.
When infection with EBV occurs during adolescence or young adulthood, it causes infectious mononucleosis. In some cases EBV is described as the causative agent in chronic fatigue syndrome.
Serologic tests are used to assess the serological status of an individual and are indicative for an acute or past infection.
There is an additional £15 phlebotomy fee for every donation.
